“One of the Top 28 Destination Half Marathons in the U.S.” ~Runner’s World Magazine – Feb 2013

Join us on October 11th for the Iron Horse Half Marathon! But don’t delay – the race is over 95% full with just 100 spots remaining.

Screen shot 2015-08-05 at 12.20.50 PMThe Iron Horse Half Marathon began in 2010 with 710 runners. The race is capped at 1,800 runners for 2015 and is expected to fill up soon.

The race is held in scenic Midway, Kentucky. Midway is located “midway” between Lexington and Frankfort. Midway is known for beautiful horses, country roads, unique shops, and delicious restaurants. You can find more information about Midway here.

The course is typical rolling Bluegrass countryside. The course will be closed to traffic, but the occasional vehicle might require access to a horse farm or residence. Because these are narrow public roads with no sidewalk and we’re limited in the time we can keep them closed to traffic, runners are required to keep a 14 minute per mile pace. The course map is available here. The course record of 1:08:30 was set by Kevin Castille in 2011. Allison Morgan set the Female Course Record in 2012 at 1:18:35.

IHHM4 The Iron Horse Half Marathon benefits several local charities. The Woodford Humane Society has served Woodford County since 1975. They have an open-door policy and take in animals in need regardless of temperament, health, age, or breed. At any time, they have around 200 animals available for adoption. The City of Midway supports community building events and public services for historic Midway. Miles For Mukunga helps fund higher education for orphans in rural Kenya. This race is locally owned and operated by John’s Run/Walk Shop.

Jeff Galloway will be visiting the Iron Horse Half Marathon again this year and is offering Jeff’s Running School on Saturday morning, October 10 (click here for registration information). Galloway has a passion for keeping runners motivated and injury-free using a timed walk/run method. His Running School events are limited to promote individual attention to each participant.

You can find all of the important information on the race’s FAQ page, including aid station information, packet pickup, where to stay, where to park, and activities for spectators and family members.
