Last week, Mike Acord of John’s Run/Walk Shop presented at the Beaumont Branch of the Lexington Public Library. In a little over an hour, he walked participants through the ins and outs of starting to run.
Mike taught the group about the importance of wearing the correct shoes and socks for running. He outlined two different training schedules, providing copies to the participants, and talked about different ways to cross-train if feeling the itch to move on days off.
Mike talked about the benefits of running solo and with a group. He described the different feelings that creep up over the course of the training and the excitement of race day.
Mike provided street and sidewalk safety tips, covering how and when to use headphones and the importance of paying attention to your surroundings with sight and hearing.
The library is offering a 5K training group starting August 1. Follow this link for details.
John’s Run/Walk Shop is partnering with the PTA 5K for their October race. You can find information and sign up for a training group here.
