Train for the Derby Festival Mini with Amy!

Screen shot 2015-12-09 at 10.34.32 AMHere at John’s Run/Walk Shop, we are super excited that our own Amy Scarboro was chosen as a Race Ambassador for the Kentucky Derby Festival Mini Marathon!

As a part of The Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon/miniMarathon Race Ambassador Committee, Amy will help keep our runners and walkers informed, inspired and motivated during the months leading up to the race. She will have access to discount codes throughout the training season.

Amy wants to help you train for the Kentucky Derby Festival Mini! She will be hosting a training run on Thursday evenings beginning in the new year. You do not have to be running a KDF race to join this group or come to a group run, but we will talk about the KDF Mini a lot.

The first meeting will be an informational meeting on January 7 at 6:00 PM at John’s Run/Walk Shop at South Ashland. At this session, Amy will be explaining the training plan, providing Thursday evening routes, and other introduction information. Beginning January 14, the training group will meet each Thursday at 6:00 PM. Routes on Thursday nights are 3 or 4 miles, according to the training plan.

Amy is also planning stretching and speakers each week at 5:45. Come early if you can to learn about shoes, gear, fuel, and stretching. Speakers will start promptly at 5:45 so that the running can start at 6:00. Several JRWS employees will be running at different paces to motivate and encourage group runners.

And plan on joining the group after the run at the Beer Trappe. The Beer Trappe has offered their space for runners to gather after the run and get warm.

You can join the group by joining the JRWS 2016 KDF MiniMarathon Training Group Facebook Page or email

Not sure if a half marathon is in your plan this spring? Amy is also providing support and encouragement for the Louisville Triple Crown of Running. You can find info about the Anthem 5K, Rodes City Run 10K, and Papa John’s 10-Miler here.
